Potassium Citrate formulation is recommended for dogs and cats with recurring stones and is used to support urinary tract health. Urolithiasis (recurring urinary stones) is a common problem in dogs and cats, especially in male dogs approaching middle age. As surgery is often the only treatment option, urinary health management should be the first line of defense. Pets at risk produce calcium and oxalate, which can lead to stone formation. Other less common stones such as urate and cystine can also be controlled with the same mechanism. Supplemental potassium citrate also increases urine alkalinity which may also further inhibit oxalate stone formation in the bladder.
